How to connect to the MySQL server remotely
Remote MySQL connections are disabled by default in cPanel servers because they are considered a potential security threat.
Please note that HDWEBPROVIDER™ Shared customers are not permitted to use remote MySQL connections in order to ensure the security of the other customers on the same server. Remote mysql connections can only be enabled for Dedicated and VPS customers (cloud hosting).
On cloud/private servers:
Configuration Settings:
Host = localhost (really, put localhost)
Database name = (cpanelusername_databasename)
Database username = (cpanelusername_databaseusername)
Database password = (******)
It is possible for someone to use their cPanel username and password to connect to the database. However, we NEVER recommend doing this because the first time you change or reset your cPanel password, then your databases will stop working.
